Help Keep Garfield Ridge Safe: Register Your Security Camera with Chicago Police

Written by Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch | Oct 26, 2026, 3:20:43 AM

Garfield Ridge Neighborhood Watch is encouraging residents and local businesses to participate in the Chicago Police Department's Camera Registration Program, a free and voluntary initiative designed to help law enforcement investigate crimes and keep our neighborhoods safer.

How Does the Camera Registration Program Work?

When a crime occurs, Chicago Police officers and detectives often search the surrounding area for security camera footage that may provide valuable evidence.

By registering your home or business security camera with CPD, you're helping officers identify potential sources of video footage that could assist with an investigation.

Registration does not give police access to your cameras. Instead, it simply allows CPD to contact you if a crime occurs nearby and your camera may have captured something useful.

Your Privacy Remains Protected

It's important for residents to understand that:

  • Participation is completely free and voluntary.
  • CPD does not receive live or direct access to your cameras.
  • Officers cannot access your recorded footage without your consent.
  • You are not required to share footage simply because you registered.

Register Your Camera Today!

Whether you have a doorbell camera, outdoor security cameras, or a surveillance system at your business, your participation could help provide valuable information during a neighborhood investigation.
